Shenandoah Fleet Maintenance and Management, LLC began providing services at the FEMA Distribution Center in Cumberland, Maryland on July 1, 2011. On this contract with FEMA, which also includes the FEMA Distribution Center in Selma, Alabama, Shenandoah Fleet performs supply management, maintenance, and logistics-related services in support of FEMA Logistics’ Temporary Housing Unit Program.
At the FEMA site in Cumberland, Shenandoah Fleet is responsible for receiving, inspecting, maintaining, and preparing for dispatch 1500 temporary housing trailers as well as warehousing essential emergency commodities that will also need to be dispatched at a moment’s notice to locations across the United States during times of disaster.
In serving FEMA, it is vital that Shenandoah Fleet utilizes first-rate technology, precision and quality control. The units, equipment and inventory that we handle are essential for helping citizens in times of emergency. There is very little room for error here.
On this contract we depend heavily upon the inventory aspects of our fleet management and maintenance program to help us keep track of the 3.8 million liters of water, 22,000 cots, 500,000 blankets, 9,000 tarps, 135,000 rolls of sheeting, 5,800 bed and bath kits, and 14.6 million units of various pandemic supplies that are currently being stored at this site. Not only are we in charge of inventorying these items, Shenandoah Fleet is responsible for moving them efficiently for the best use of warehouse space, ensuring they are stored properly and preparing them for expedient distribution.
The trailers at the Cumberland site are likewise maintained by our company to ensure that they are able to be dispatched effectively and with great speed. We utilize a receiving and an out-processing checklist for each unit and maintain each throughout its stay at FEMA Cumberland.
Additional support services are part of our contract at FEMA Cumberland. In addition to the fleet and inventory maintenance, we offer grounds maintenance, facilities maintenance and janitorial services.
The scope of work for this contract, which employs more than 18 people, also includes all aspects of administrative assistance services; accountable property and inventory services; materie4l handling support services; general labor support services including movement, storage, and maintenance of trailer units; transportation and equipment operator services; physical plant services including facilities maintenance; metal fabrication support services; lawn and grounds maintenance services; and contract administration services.
